A severe road accident occurred early Wednesday morning along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi Highway after a passenger bus belonging to Dreamline Express crashed into a stationary, broken-down truck near the Mackinnon-Taru stretch.
The crash involved a Dreamline Express bus travelling towards Nairobi, which collided head-on with the rear container section of a stalled commercial trailer.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the Dreamline bus driver was speeding while tailgating another long-distance passenger vehicle.
The lead bus suddenly swerved to avoid the stalled truck parked on the side of the road without clear hazard markings, but the Dreamline bus driver couldn’t react in time, ramming directly into the heavy vehicle.
How the Dreamline Bus Accident Happened
At least one passenger remained trapped deep within the mangled wreckage for over an hour, suffering from severe bleeding and critical injuries as rescuers worked to free him.
Several other passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees during the collision.
Good Samaritans from nearby shopping centers were the first to respond, helping pull injured passengers through shattered bus windows.
Local police officers arrived shortly after, utilizing National Police Service Land Cruisers to evacuate the most critically injured victims to nearby health facilities.
Traffic along the major transport corridor was temporarily grounded as traffic police officers cordoned off the area to manage surging crowds and supervise debris removal.
