Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has initiated an online attack on Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku over his retreat on splitting the Mt. Kenya region.
Gachagua declared that Ruku’s initial plan to split the Mt. Kenya region was a failed state-sponsored blueprint to politically subdivide the region.
According to a detailed statement published on his official X account on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Gachagua claimed President Ruto’s plan to use Public Service Cabinet Secretary Ruku and Deputy President Kindiki to fracture the region’s voting bloc failed for a reason he claimed forced Ruku to retreat.
“I have woken up to the happenings back home that the two mischievous characters assigned by Mr. William Ruto to divide the mountain have given up after the residents of the region rejected their attempts in total,” Gachagua stated.
The former Deputy President maintained that the two-year political campaign failed because the local electorate refused to accept the political scheme initiated by President Ruto.
Gachagua’s Allegations of Financial Inducement to Split Mt. Kenya Region
The former impeached deputy president further targeted Kithure Kindiki, asserting that their sudden retreat and public reconciliation gestures were driven by total operational failure rather than a genuine desire for regional unity.
Reiterating his long-standing stance on the political resilience of the electorate, Gachagua recalled warning President Ruto that trying to break the region using administrative surrogates was a completely futile effort.
He dismissed the recent reconciliation ceremony where CS Ruku handed over a traditional axe to local elders as a staged public relations exercise.
He alleged that the participating elders were financially induced with Ksh. 3,000 each to act out an admission of failure on behalf of state operatives.
The opposition leader further urged the elders to reject the ceremonial tool and send it back to State House, describing the axe as a political liability and a bad omen for the Mt. Kenya region.
Gachagua further cautioned residents that having failed to engineer a permanent divide between Mt. Kenya East and Mt. Kenya West, government strategists were already pivoting toward sowing fresh political discord within the former Central Province territory.
