A 47-year-old man is currently in police custody in Nairobi following his arrest over the assault and defilement of his nine-year-old daughter, leading to the minor’s death in Kibra. The suspect, identified as Norman Swahili, was apprehended by law enforcement officers after attempting to seek emergency medical intervention for the victim.
According to an official tweet from the DCI on their official X account posted on Monday, September 7, 2026, Swahili assaulted his daughter on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after neighbors raised concerns and reported the matter to Kibra Police Station.
“A 47-year-old father is in police custody after allegedly defiling and brutally assaulting his nine-year-old daughter, who later succumbed to her injuries in Kibra, Nairobi. This incident occurred on September 6, 2026, after police officers at Kibra Police Station received a distress call reporting that the suspect, identified as Norman Swahili, had seriously assaulted his daughter,” the statement reads.
With the alert from the neighbors, officers from Kibra Police Station and local community policing units deployed to the scene to rescue the child.
Upon arrival at the Kibra residence, Swahili had already departed the location with the injured minor to Mbagathi Hospital in a reported attempt to obtain emergency medical treatment following the attack.
According to the DCI, Swahili was arrested at Mbagathi Hospital after an initial physical examination of the victim’s body documented multiple fresh bruises, body swellings, and a freshly lost upper incisor tooth. Clinical assessments at the hospital also confirmed the nine-year-old girl had suffered sexual assault prior to her death.
This tragedy in Kibra coincides with a broader national crisis involving a series of brutal defilement and murder cases targeting children across Kenya between late 2025 and early 2026.
The report on the investigation, reporting, and adjudication of child sexual exploitation and abuse in Kenya shows that sodomy and defilement account for 57 percent of sexual violence cases against children.
The report further reveals that girls aged six to 11 face the greatest risk of sexual abuse, accounting for 39 percent of all reported cases. Adolescents aged 16 to 18 years make up 25 percent of the cases, while children between 12 and 15 years account for 21 percent, highlighting the widespread vulnerability of girls across different age groups.
The report further shows that male neighbors are the main perpetrators of sexual violence against children, followed by close family members. Men aged between 18 and 35 account for 30 percent of cases, while those below 18 years account for 26 percent.
However, Swahili, who is 47 years old and the father of the daughter, provides a contrasting perspective to the trend outlined in the report. He will remain in custody as homicide detectives assemble evidence for prosecution. The minor’s body rests at the Nairobi Funeral Home awaiting an official postmortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
