Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to take over the leadership of the Jubilee Party, signaling an impending political transition within the former ruling party.
In a statement addressing the leadership transition, Uhuru asked party members and delegates to support Matiang’i as he prepares to step aside.
“While we wait for NDC, I have decided to let my deputy take over the party leadership. I want to respectfully ask you to accept Fred Matiang’i to take the position of Jubilee Party leader,” Uhuru stated.
The endorsement comes following recent judicial rulings regarding party leadership, prompting the former head of state to initiate a structured handover ahead of the upcoming National Delegates Convention (NDC).
The move positions ex-CS at the helm of Jubilee’s operations as the party reorganizes its political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to the endorsement, Fred Matiang’i accepted the nomination via his social media and official channels, pledging to steer the former ruling party into its next political era.
“I accept the nomination to lead the Jubilee Party with humility,” Matiang’i stated in a public response, expressing gratitude for Uhuru’s leadership and guidance.

“We did everything to help Baba become the President of our Republic of Kenya. He got the votes, and to this day, I know that he won that election. We know how things went, and we do not want it to go like that again,” Uhuru revealed.
