IEBC to Gachagua: “Stop Propaganda”

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has firmly rejected claims made by Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua regarding the procurement of electoral technology and administrative misconduct.

In a press release shared on its official X account on Thursday, August 27 2026, IEBC addresses Gachagua’s claims and defends its procurement process.

“The Commission welcomes constructive criticism and accountability measures based on the rule of law and laid-down procedures as established by the Constitution of Kenya and applicable laws. However, the Commission shall also protect public interest where the allegations are motivated by malice and unjustifiable propaganda aimed at undermining the integrity and credibility of the electoral processes in Kenya,” the statement reads.

The electoral body further dismissed allegations of IEBC chair being bought a house worth between sh.80 million to Ksh.200 million demanding Gachagua to submit evidence of this to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

“The Commission demands Gachagua tender evidence of the location of the house and transaction documents, including Sale Agreements, Transfer Documents and payment receipts, details of the Seller and Purchaser, among others, to EACC for action. The Kenyan public also needs to know the truth and nothing less,” the statement reads.

The commission furhher clarified there staff deployments routines claiming it follows standard public service, human resource guidelines.

“The Commission complies with its Human Resource policies, guidelines and other relevant instruments under the larger public service when engaging employees. The Commission will continue to deploy and redeploy its personnel to enhance service delivery.”the press statement clarified 

The poll body defended the procurement claims, stating that the Integrated Elections Management System and ballot papers comply with Chapter Twelve of the Constitution and the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act of 2015.

“The Commission conducts all its procurement processes in strict compliance with Chapter Twelve of the Constitution of Kenya and the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015 (PPADA), together with all applicable regulations and procedures.”the press statement defended.

The commission confirmed that tender processes for Tender No. IEBC/OIT/01/2026–2027 were temporarily halted after a request for review was filed with the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board.

Clarifying the status of the procurement process, the electoral body noted that no tender award has been made to any vendor as the process remains at its initial stage following open advertisement on August 11, 2026.

Bidders were urged to participate competitively and refrain from using political instigated allegations to influence decision making processes.
