Cleophas Malala Accuses Ruto of Double Standards in Handling Gen Z Issues

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has publicly challenged President William Ruto’s government over unfulfilled compensation promises for victims of police action.

Speaking on national television on Monday, August 24, 2026, Malala questioned the state’s sincerity in handling issues raised by Gen Z demonstrators.

‘’When Gen Z were killed in Parliament, what measures have been put in place to ensure that it has not recurred?’ Malala questioned.

The DCP leader further  pressed the government on why families who lost loved ones during the anti-government protests are yet to receive compensation.

‘’We are asking Ruto, you promised to compensate the families of those who lost their loved ones, up to now nothing has been done.’Malala  question.

He also highlighted the unresolved death of Albert Ojwang, who reportedly died while held in police custody.

 ‘Albert Ojwang was killed in police cell and the person who was behind his death is still eyeing promotion to lead the police next year.’Malala Alerged.

The deputy party leader condemned the situation, questioning why the people who were behind Ojwanga’s death face potential promotion next year while victims’ families await  justice.

The nationwide anti-Finance Bill protests, which erupted in June 2024, saw young citizens march peacefully before encountering extreme state force.

Independent audits documented at least 39 peak-period fatalities, while human rights organizations recorded up to 61 total deaths during the protest cycle.

Autopsy reports confirmed that officers used live ammunition and high-velocity rifles, with the first casualty being 29-year-old Rex Masai, who bled to death.

Despite formal investigations opened by the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), progress remains slow, leaving grieving parents and activists continuing to demand accountability for the fallen Gen Z.
