Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has met today with Jhpiego President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Allyson Bear to initiate a new health partnership.
In an official post on the Ministry of Health’s(MOH) X account, the ministry has highlighted the key objectives of the partnership between the government and Jhpiego.
The plan aims to improve care for women and newborns, as well as develop the healthcare workforce under Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
During discussions between the two parties, addressing maternal hemorrhage, enhancing healthcare-worker skills, and improving access to appropriate technologies were identified as the primary areas of collaboration.

For mothers and newborns, the collaboration will establish a digital system featuring a health-sector command center dashboard that will track performance, identify gaps, and support timely action across maternal and newborn health.
To strengthen the healthcare workforce, the initiative will provide workers with mentorship, virtual learning, and targeted capacity-building.
With the selection being done by the government, the initiative will be spearheaded by Jhpiego in 5 counties for mothers and newborn babies and 18 counties for the health care workforce.
This aligns with the government’s aim to reduce the number of newborn and maternal deaths during childbirth.
