As we are approaching the election year, many conversations are on who will be the next leader. But are they considering children as part of the nation? Despite being minors and not having a chance to cast our vote on the ballot, we can make a big difference in Kenya’s leadership and development.
Children should be encouraging their parents to cast their votes for a change in the nation. Adults and voters should vote knowing that the decision they make is going to affect the children in one way or the other.
The future we want for our children is going to be determined by the decisions we make today and even during the elections. Democracy is not only about politics or our support for any person, but it’s about everyone being included in critical decisions affecting the country.
Everybody has a right to support and be part of any political party they want, so children should not be forced to support any political party or politician with their parents.
Parents should also be very careful about what they say in front of their children because we children mostly say what we heard our parents say.
Child participation is important, but it should also remain respectful; children should not force their parents to vote for a specific person.
As Kenya approaches the next election, we children have a message: The decision you make today will affect our present and future.
