Jubilee Party claims President Ruto has lost the moral authority to lecture opposition leaders from church pulpits.

The Jubilee Party has launched an attack on President William Ruto, accusing his administration of hypocrisy, power-blinded rhetoric, and attempting to sanitize governance failures through church altars.

The opposition outfit has issued a direct response following remarks made by the Head of State during a church service in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County on Sunday, September 27, 2026, where he blasted opposition leaders for addressing public rallies while under the influence of alcohol.

Addressing the congregation, President Ruto stated that elected leaders must serve as role models, arguing that politicians who turn up to public gatherings under the influence of alcohol lose the moral authority to advise the youth or challenge government policies.

“Those of us who are leaders must lead by example. You cannot be a leader and then show up at a public meeting drunk, and then try to tell children not to get drunk, or tell other leaders not to indulge in alcohol when you yourself are confused,” President Ruto remarked.

The Head of State further said that several political figures remain disoriented four years after losing the last presidential contest, claiming that alcohol consumption continues to drive political agitation across the country.

“You go there because you are confused by alcohol, and you start making statements that cause trouble. The election was held four years ago, but because of alcohol, you are speaking words that have no direction,” the President added.

Jubilee Party Official Response to President Ruto’s Remark

However, according to an official press statement shared by the Jubilee Party on Monday, September 28, 2026, the former ruling party expressed outrage over the President using a sanctuary reserved for truth to lecture the nation on political decorum.

“It is the height of political irony when the Head of State stands at the pulpit of a church, a sanctuary reserved for truth, humility, and spiritual reflection, to castigate other leaders for improper decorum and reckless utterances,” the official circular stated.

Jubilee Party, through its Secretary General, Moitalel Ole Kenta, asserted that the individuals attempting to claim moral superiority from church sanctuaries are themselves blinded by absolute power, administrative incompetence, and unending falsehoods.

“To stand before a congregation and lecture the nation on decorum, while presiding over a regime that has subjected millions to crippling economic hardship, punitive taxation, and broken promises, reveals a profound detachment from reality,” the official document clarified.

Jubilee highlighted that converting a Sunday sermon into a platform for petty political score-settling and cheap moralizing exposes deep-seated hypocrisy at the core of the current administration.

Jubilee claims that no amount of state-sponsored propaganda, political theater, or pulpit politics will rewrite history or distract citizens from demanding accountability over rising living costs.
