It's a Fact report reveals that many girls understand digital safety, critical thinking, and communication skills as compared to boys.

A child organization in coordination with Safe Online did a report and training on children researchers from Kenyan,Malawi and Senegal to find out what they understand about being safe online.

According to It’s a Fact report published on Mtoto News on Friday, August 14, 2026, most children know how to go online, but few understand the real dangers that come with using the internet. 

In an online space many children accepts friend requests from total strangers without verification. 

In matters of gender comparison in online understanding, many girls understand digital safety, critical thinking, and communication skills as compared to boys.

Also, the same organization did training on child online safety. This was easy in Senegal, with the government having invested in a national digital education strategy called Digital Senegal 2025. 

In Teso North, Kenya, children got better internet access alongside training, their overall digital learning scores rose from 38 to 44 percent 

The report further reveals children in Malawi’s conflict-affected region of Salima scored lowest in online safety, intensifying calls to protect the most vulnerable youth. 

After the training programme, children’s ability to create their own online content shoot to 88 percent across all three countries.  

The report urges children to report harmful online activity to Kenya’s Child helpline 116. 

Child researchers who helped gather this information were Upendo Nawire, Bruno Rotich, Evans Otieno, Lisa Nasimiyu, Aceking Kimtai, and John Emuron from Kenya; 

In Malawi Fyness Medson, Ronald Bickiel, Fatima, Gerald, Christin, and Vincent Bonface spearheaded the research as well as a child research team from Diourbel, Senegal.
