A heated online debate has erupted between prominent radio personalities Alex Mwakideu and Francis Munyao, popularly known as MCA Tricky, over the praise and criticism of ongoing government infrastructure projects.
The confrontation began after Mwakideu posted a video on Instagram praising current road construction efforts, specifically highlighting structural projects in his home region of Taita Taveta County.
Expressing his satisfaction with the development, he urged public figures to speak out boldly when the state delivers essential services to underserved regions.
“If you are a celebrity, speak up and do not fear, I am a happy man because this government is building a road in Taita Taveta, and that is a fact.” Mwakideu stated.
Addressing critics who accused him of political bias or receiving state compensation, the media presenter strongly denied being influenced by political factions or receiving payments for his remarks.
“I have not been paid to state this, and I will never belong to political factions,” Mwakideu clarified. “Since the creation of the world, we have pleaded for road construction in Taita Taveta, and now that it is happening, I must acknowledge the truth.”
MCA Tricky Fires Back Alex Mwakideu Over Taxpayer-Funded Government Projects
However, comedian and media personality MCA Tricky countered Mwakideu’s stance, arguing that public infrastructure projects should not be treated as political favors or glorified as extraordinary achievements.
Tricky emphasized that taxpayers fund all infrastructure projects, meaning governments are simply fulfilling their statutory mandate rather than bestowing gifts upon citizens.
“This is not the first government to build roads, and if we are to rank performance, it would sit at the tail end,” Tricky stated. “We should never worship tax-driven developments in a country because those days are long gone.”
Questioning the necessity of public celebrations for standard civil works, he urged leaders and public figures to maintain accountability instead of demanding praise for basic service delivery.
