The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrests a girlfriend after a daring attempt to smuggle narcotics to her detained partner at Buruburu Police Station.
According to a statement issued on the official DCI X account on Monday, September 21, 2026, police officers intercepted the illegal stash during routine security screening at the station desk.
“A visit to a detained boyfriend instead landed a 26-year-old woman in police custody, after officers manning Buruburu Police Station’s report office desk discovered bhang hidden inside a loaf of bread,” the DCI stated.
Bernice Achieng had arrived at the police station with the intention to visit her boyfriend, who was currently held in custody, and requested to be allowed to hand him the loaf of bread she had brought along.
However, the unsealed package raised suspicion from the police, who requested to conduct a physical inspection of the food.
Police discovered five rolls of bhang and a matchbox buried deep inside the hollowed-out section of the loaf of bread.
The surprising discovery prompted police officers to perform a further search on her person, which turned up an additional seven rolls of bhang stuffed inside the pocket of her jacket, bringing the total recovery to twelve rolls.
Achieng is now held in custody at Buruburu Police Station as detectives secure the exhibits in preparation for her formal arraignment in court.
DCI Nabs Thika Peddler With Over 300 Rolls of Bhang
Elsewhere in Thika, police officers apprehended a drug peddler following a dramatic high-speed motorcycle chase through Kairi, Thika West, which ended in a road crash and the recovery of over 300 rolls of bhang.
The suspect and his female pillion passenger had spotted an active police roadblock ahead, and sensing immediate trouble, the rider gunned the engine in a desperate bid to vanish from the scene.
Near Ree Supermarket, the rider misjudged a speed bump, causing the motorcycle to lose control and crash heavily; during the resulting chaos, his female passenger melted into the crowd and slipped away unnoticed.
The rider, identified as John Mwangi, alias “Bombay,” was arrested on the spot with 300 rolls of bhang and an additional 3 kilograms wrapped in yellow polythene strapped to his seat, and he remains held at Kimuchu Police Station pending arraignment.
