Obado’s former personal assistant, Michael Oyamo, and former Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero are likely to face life imprisonment or a long jail sentence after the court found them guilty of the murder of Sharon Otieno.
On Thursday, July 23 2026, the Milimani High Court officially announced that Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two co-accused, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, have been found guilty of the murder of former student Sharon Otieno.
This happened following a landmark ruling by Lady Justice Cecilia Githua, who ended the high-profile criminal case that has taken place for eight years now.

” Sharon was strangled, raped, and stabbed eight times in the neck, back, and abdomen,” the government’s chief pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor, confirmed.
On Monday August 10 2026, the representatives of Obado’s family and Sharon’s family officially met and reached a mutual understanding that Obado should fulfil his promises made to Sharon before her death.
Sharon’s family stated they wanted a compensation of 4.7 million Kenyan shillings, following the funeral and the eight year legal costs, a piece of land, a house, a car, and continued support for Sharon’s three children.
With this agreement in place, Obado will likely receive a lenient or non-custodial sentence upon his fulfillment of Sharon’s family’s financial commitment.
On the other hand, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero face a different fate in regard to their financial positions.
Oyamo was responsible for luring Sharon into her abduction and death, while Obiero provided the vehicle that was used to abduct Sharon and the nation journalist.
After the official ruling that revoked their bonds, former Governor Okoth Obado, Michael Oyamo, and Caspal Obiero were taken into custody.
They are currently being held at Industrial Area Remand Prison in Nairobi, awaiting their final sentencing scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Milimani High Court.
