The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued key deadlines as the country prepares for the upcoming general election.
In an official press release shared on its X account, the IEBC outlined directives and timelines for individuals intending to contest, as well as for political parties aiming to participate in the 2027 general election.
For individuals holding public office who intend to contest a political position, the deadline to resign from their current positions is Wednesday, February 10, 2027.
Political parties intending to field candidates have until Thursday, October 15, 2026, to submit the names and signed details of their candidates.
Additionally, political parties have been given a deadline of Friday, October 30, 2026, to ensure their Nomination Rules are certified by the Registrar of Political Parties.
The commission further directed political parties to submit their membership lists and the names of candidates contesting in their party primaries.
“Political parties shall submit their membership list and the names of their candidates contesting in their party primary, along with the dates and venues for those primaries, on Tuesday, March 16, 2027,” the press release stated.
Independent candidates have until Saturday, May 8, 2027, to submit their names and symbols to the commission. The election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 10, 2026
