At least six people died following a Nakuru Eldoret Highway accident involving a truck and a matatu at a blackspot early Saturday morning.

A fatal Nakuru Eldoret Highway accident on Saturday morning left at least six people dead and several others nursing serious injuries following a multi-vehicle collision at the Kondoo blackspot in Uasin Gishu County.

The early morning tragedy involved three vehicles: a heavy commercial truck, a saloon car, and a public service vehicle (PSV).

According to preliminary police reports, the fatal sequence began when the Eldoret-bound truck swerved out of its lane in an attempt to avoid a saloon car ahead.

The sudden evasive maneuver caused the truck to clip the car before crashing into the oncoming vehicle.

Emergency responders arriving at the Kondoo stretch confirmed that the driver of the public service vehicle died instantly upon impact alongside five occupants.

An unspecified number of survivors who sustained varying degrees of injury were rushed to health facilities across Uasin Gishu County for urgent medical treatment.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani confirmed the incident, stating that the six bodies were moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret for postmortem examination.

“The impact of the crash was severe, and our officers reacted quickly alongside local emergency teams to clear the highway and move the injured to hospitals,” Commander Sicharani stated.

Traffic police officers visited the scene early Saturday to record statements and secure the wrecked vehicles.

The damaged units were subsequently towed to Burnt Forest police station for detailed mechanical inspections to ascertain the exact technical cause of the collision.

The Kondoo area along the Nakuru-Eldoret stretch remains a high-risk zone, with authorities continuing to urge motorists to exercise caution to prevent further fatalities on the major highway.
