Governor Commissions New Bedside Oxygen System at Level 3 Hospital to Strengthen Primary Care

Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has officially commissioned a central medical oxygen manifold system at Mbiuni Level 3 Hospital, marking a major infrastructural step toward strengthening primary healthcare delivery across rural wards of Machakos County.

The newly launched infrastructure replaces reliance on mobile gas cylinders by piping continuous, high-pressure medical oxygen directly to patient bedsides.

Wavinya Ndeti, who made history as the first female Governor of Machakos in the 2022 General Election, emphasized that the strategic investment is designed to enhance emergency response capabilities and protect local families from the logistical strain of distant medical referrals.

“Commissioned the oxygen manifold at Mbiuni Level 3 Hospital, strengthening the facility’s capacity to provide reliable oxygen services to patients who require respiratory support. The facility serves over 10,000 residents in Mbiuni Ward and the surrounding areas,” Governor Wavinya Ndeti stated on Saturday.

The arrival of piped oxygen infrastructure at the primary care level allows local health workers to stabilize patients suffering from severe pneumonia, maternal complications, or acute respiratory distress without waiting for emergency transit.

By handling critical respiratory cases locally in Mbiuni Ward, the facility will de-escalate and reduce patient volume at referral hubs such as Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

Wavinya reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to expanding equipment and physical infrastructure across sub-county facilities to ensure equitable healthcare access across Machakos County.

“My administration will continue investing in healthcare infrastructure, equipment, and services to improve access to quality and efficient healthcare for the people of Machakos County,” Wavinya added.
