Women Filmmakers Organization Condemn Violence Against Actresses

Women filmmakers’ organizations have issued a joint statement following the brutal attack on a woman filmmaker while travelling home alone at night.

The organization, which includes Women in Film and Television(WIFT), Female Filmmakers in Kenya Association (FEFKA), and African Female Film Collective (AFFC), raised several concerns about the safety of women filmmakers.

In a press statement shared on (FEFKA), official Instagram account, the organization raised several questions on safety ,responsibility and accountability on Kenyan film sets. They also questioned the circumstances as to why the lady was allowed to travel at home alone after the night shoot..

This week, a woman filmmaker was brutally attacked while travelling home alone after a night shoot.

“Why was she required to arrange her own transport after a night shoot? What duty of care was owed to her, and was it fulfilled?

They went ahead to condemn the violence against filmmakers in Kenya, especially women.

‘One fact is beyond dispute: the safety of every filmmaker is a fundamental right and not an optional production consideration.

They promised to stand with their colleague, giving her the legal assistance she needs. They also urged the public to respect her privacy and avoid speculation that could compromise her dignity or the investigative process.
